Angel Trains. Rail People. Real Expertise

To support our portfolio of recent new build deals we are looking for an experienced engineering project manager to join our team and support the introduction of cutting edge bi and tri-mode rolling stock into passenger service.

Who are we?

We are Rail People. Since our founding in 1994, we have been helping to modernise and improve UK rail to meet the needs of today’s passengers; investing more than £1.5bn over the last decade on procuring new rolling stock and refurbishing the trains we already own.  You may not have heard of us, but you have almost certainly travelled on one of our trains that are leased to Train Operators across the country.

Our culture of innovation, collaboration and commitment to excellence drives us to be a company that is valued by our customers and makes us the people that the rail industry most wants to work with.

Together, with talented people across the industry, we are creating a brighter, greener and more cost-effective railway, where people can enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

About the role:

As an Angel Trains project manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of high-value, highly complex projects including cutting edge new build, refurbishment, re-engineering, reliability growth and retro-fit programmes.

On a day-to-day basis you will be interfacing with suppliers and customers at a project level and resolving issues that have been identified head-on through Project Steering Groups. You’ll be the go-to person for resolving issues and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

But that’s not all! You’ll also be the face of Angel Trains in high-level contractual negotiations, forging strong relationships with existing customers and suppliers. Representing Angel Trains’ interests, you’ll make your mark in internal and industry stakeholder meetings, driving projects to success and beyond.

What will you be doing?

  • Delivering high-value, complex, engineering projects in line with agreed specifications, timescales, budgets, and to the correct standard of quality.
  • Contributing to the successful delivery of projects in line with approved DFA and by minimising contingency spend.
  • Preparing and presenting project approval papers to Angel Trains Board.
  • Identifying, understanding and mitigating risks in projects.
  • Advising internal stakeholders on achievable project deliverables and timescales in response to customer requests for modifications / enhancements to the fleets.
  • Reviewing modification / enhancement requests in the context of long-term value and strategic fit with corporate objectives.
  • Engaging with manufacturers to understand product development.

What do we need from you?

  • An engineering background or experience delivering projects within the rail sector.
  • A recognised project management qualification (either APMP or PRINCE2).
  • A proven track record of delivering multiple projects in a timely and efficient manner, ideally within the rail or other heavy engineering sectors.
  • Customer and supplier management experience.
  • Prior experience introducing new passenger rolling stock into service would be beneficial but is not a requirement.
